The world has gone AI crazy and it’s going to change/impact our lives forever. That much is a guarantee – it’s not a fad and it’s only going to improve/get smarter.
Artificial Intelligence is going to replace a lot of people’s jobs.
It’s going to take away salaries you would otherwise use to put bread on the table for your family.
Not all humans are going to end up thinking AI is the best thing since sliced bread. Quite the opposite, in fact, but you can’t stop ‘progress’.
Your mind will boggle at all the things it can do right now and what it will do in future, but here’s the thing – it makes a LOT of mistakes.
Anyone that has used it to generate images, will know that it currently can’t spell very well and it will add extra digits to your hands and feet. It will often assert factually incorrect things as truth.
AI aint perfect. It also aint human and it definitely isn’t as cool as I am (or you).
It may be able to clone and even write similarly to me or you, but it isn’t you and if you’re in any doubt of this just touch your nose with your finger. See? 🙂 There’s only one of you and that’s what makes you UNIQUE (you are your own USP).
AI isn’t a biological organism. It will NEVER be human. Sure, it may have the power of 10,000 brains linking simultaneously and beat me at all manner of things, but it can’t REALLY cry when it’s watching a movie or know what it’s like to actually experience the human condition.
Please don’t misconstrue what I’m saying, I do use AI for various things that would take me a long time to otherwise do with these plain Jane human fingers and it’s good to bounce things off an entity that never gets tired, but it isn’t coming anywhere near this blog. No sirree.
It’s smart to know how you can leverage AI, but make no mistake, where possible, companies are going to use it to replace YOU.
Yes, that’s you dear fellow human reader. It wants to replace you with what it can now automate thanks to advances in AI.
What you used to do to get what we might call ‘monetary reward’ may become a thing of the past and many people will be faced with the prospect of having to retrain and learn new skillsets just to survive.
It’s a jungle out there, my friend, so stay nimble and alert. AI is here and if you’re in a job it’s coming for you if it can.
Now is probably a good time in history to do be in professions where autonomy can’t kick you out of your J.O.B.
We’re way beyond where Peter Gibbons was in the film Office Space when he worked for Initech. Now it’s about more than just asking, “Is it good for the company”, because you’ve got number crunchers at the top working out how to cut down the human workforce and replace it with AI.
Don’t worry, the humans at the top of the food chain will still be playing golf in Portugal from the proceeds. Pass that CEO another cigar ’cause the show aint over until the fat cat swings!
There is no sentiment in business and loyalty is a quality rarely rewarded in the land of corporate profits.
Deep down you already know that.
Over time, humans will seek out things created by humans, more and more. Verifying what is and isn’t human is going to get trickier and the lines are gonna blur, but where possible I envisage humans craving what it is that makes them human and that’s to connect with other humans.
AI isn’t going to come to the pub with me, drink a beer, eat a packet of peanuts and talk about how we used to climb trees when we were kids. I have it on good authority that AI is pretty dull at parties as well 😉
I think it was in the film, Good Will Hunting, the genius character played by Matt Damon knew more than most about a lot of things due to how much he’d read, but he’d never experienced most of it.
He hadn’t lived…and neither has AI. It just exists, even it is a rather monstrous existence.
Moreover, last time I checked I am indeed human and for that reason my promise to you on this blog is that everything I write on this blog up until now and into the future is written by me and nobody else.
I don’t want ghostwriters or helpers and I certainly don’t want AI writing to my audience on this blog. I started this thing to connect with fellow humans interested in living and being empowered by the laptop lifestyle on their own terms, so if I have one mission with this blog that is it.
If I accept any written contributions on this blog or conduct any interviews, you will know exactly who it is I am conversing with in the post or who it is that has contributed. And guess what, that person will be human too.
Unless Arnie from the Terminator is able to fool me, anyway 🙂
My advice in this posts is to diversify as much as you can so you don’t wake up one day and find AI is doing the thing you used to get paid for by an ’employer’ as you drift up the river without a paddle.
Move up through the layercake and live live on your own terms amigo.
Thanks for reading and I’ll see you in the next ‘human post’
Let’s play this one out with the Daft Punk classic: ‘Around The World’…
